As a leader, Avery is brave, commu-nicative, and a consensus builder. He is also an artist, and uses his talents to illustrate good problem-solving techniques and leadership skills.

He’ll use smashed-berry paint to make a trail for lost animals to follow, use chalk to warn of a dangerous place, or direct everyone to arrange twigs to write a giant message of love. Avery appreciates and encourages everyone’s self-expression because he knows that communication is a key to peace.

ROSALIA

“Hola! Canten y bailen con migo!”

Rosalia, Avery's best friend and traveling companion, is a multi-colored bird of paradise from South America.

As the singer and musician of the group, she is eager to learn local songs and play local musical instruments. She is always the first to jump in and try new things.
Her adventurousness and curiosity are tempered by her level-headedness. She loves to tell stories about the music, art and fashion of her beloved South America.

RAGNAR

“I would rather stay home with the oljetre gruber.”

Ragnar, a seagull of Scandinavian descent, is the head chef of the Ship-Wrecked Seagull Inn.

He thinks that he is the best cook in the world. He is selfish, fussy, stubborn and arrogant. His social skills are terrible, and he is unconscious when it comes to other people’s feelings. He favors and feels more at home with his culinary gadgets than he does with his fellow creatures.

Ragnar’s stories are invariably about food. He believes that he knows the better way to harvest, prepare, or cook, and can’t understand why anyone else would have a different point of view.

LAKPA

Lakpa is a stray kitten of Southern Asian heritage who was adopted by Ragnar. (He was adopted on a Wednesday, which is why his name is Lakpa; Lakpa means Wednesday in Nepalese.)

His love for his boss, and the fact that he is too young to know any better, gets him tangled in the gull's messes and schemes. Lakpa is polite, eager-to-learn and eager-to-please. And, of course, as a little kitten, warm-hearted, loving and loyal.

Lakpa is mute. He communicates through his big eyes and floppy, raggedy ears and tail. His hair is matted and always dirty. Lakpa loves to play, and is involved in the stories about the sports and games of his homeland.

RICOTTA AND JUBNAH

Ricotta Van Cheddars, of European lineage, and Jubnah, of Middle Eastern heritage, are the mechanics and scientists of the group.

They are the smart “big sister and brother” who get excited about problems and are eager to research and present new ideas. They create clever, mechanical ways to travel and solve problems. They love to tell stories about medicine, inventions and science.

MMA GABOON

“Come home for more than food – friends and dreams are here to meet you.”

Mma Gaboon is an African Goboon Viper, an extremely mellow, yet powerful, snake. She is the wise grandmother, sharing stories about African culture and values.

Whenever one of the characters has to deal with a difficult feeling or situation, Mma can always be counted on for a hug, a wise saying, and unconditional love.
